Purpose of this article

This article explains how to move a service purchased from LWS (e.g. domain name, LWS hosting, cPanel, VPS, Cloud Drive, etc.) from one LWS customer account to another.

Services concerned

Any product or service linked to the customer account (Mail Pro, VPS, domain name, LWS shared hosting, cPanel, Cloud cPanel, Plesk Windows).

Not affected: only move the option attached to a service to another service.

Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure that :

  • You have access to the account that owns the service you want to move to another account.
  • You know the username and email address of the destination account. (It will be possible to create the account during the procedure if it does not yet exist).
  • The service is active and not being cancelled.
  • You have the transfer code (EPP code or Auth code) if you wish to transfer ownership of a domain name.

Before you start

Moving a service means that :

  • Management of the service will be transferred to another account.
  • Renewals and billing will be linked to the new account.
  • For domain names, it is only possible to move the ownership of a domain without changing the technical manager of the service.

⚠️ This operation does not delete the service. It only changes its attachment to the customer account.

Moving a service is irreversible. To cancel it, a new transmission from account to account in the other direction must be carried out

Step 1: Go to the move services page

First, you need to log in to your LWS account.

Then click on your LWS ID at the top right of the page.

In the menu that appears, click on"Move service".

This will take you to the page where you can move a LWS product to another LWS account.

Step 2: Create a new destination LWS account if one does not already exist

If the new owner or manager of the product does not already have an LWS account, we invite you to create one for them by following the procedure below:

Click on the"Click here" link to create a new LWS account.

If the new account is to receive ownership of a domain name, it is essential to check carefully that the new owner's details are accurate and up to date. We strongly recommend that you double-check before confirming the changes, to ensure that they are correct. Any error in entering the new owner's details after the domain name ownership transfer process has been completed will require a new transmission and payment of the associated fees.

Please select"Yes" on"Send identifiers" so that the new owner receives his parameters.

You can then click on the green"Validate" button.

Once the creation is complete, an email will be sent to the email address entered in the new LWS customer account creation form. This contains the new LWS ID you will need for the rest of the procedure.

Step 2.1: Transfer ownership and/or management of a domain name or hosting with a domain name

Please note that while the transfer of technical management (technical contact) is free of charge, the transfer of ownership (owner contact) is subject to a fee at the registry (€29 excluding VAT) and is only applicable to certain extensions (fr, .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .eu and .be). Changes cannot be applied to a domain name with another extension.

Follow the steps below to transfer one of your domain names:

On the service forwarding page, select the domain name you wish to forward to another account.

Then select the type of transfer you want.

There are several options at this stage:

  • I'm transferring technical management only: management of the domain (and the associated hosting) will be transferred to a new LWS account, which will manage it. You will no longer be able to intervene, but you will still be the owner of the domain name.
  • I'm returning the service to the original owner only : this option is only available if you are already the technical contact. This option allows you to return the technical management of the domain (and the associated hosting) to the account that owns the domain.
  • I'm changing the owner only: only the ownership of the domain name will then be transferred to another LWS account, but you will remain the technical manager for the domain name and the associated hosting. The registry will invoice you for the change of ownership. This operation costs €29 excluding VAT.
  • I'm changing the owner and moving the technical management: management of the domain (and the associated hosting) and ownership will then be moved to a new LWS account, which will have full management. The change of owner is invoiced by the registry. This operation costs €29 excluding VAT.

[bcolor_orange]The technical contact's LWS account is also the account that manages billing, transfer requests and internal transmission. In the event of a domain name transfer request by the technical manager, the transfer code is sent to the e-mail address of the owner account. [/bcolor]

Once you have made your choice, you need to finish filling in the form.

  1. Enter the customer ID of the new account that will receive the management or ownership transfer.
  2. Enter the e-mail address of the new account that will receive the transfer of management or ownership. This step is used to check that the username and e-mail address match and that there have been no errors in entering the username for the new LWS account.
  3. If you wish to transfer ownership of a domain name, you will be asked for additional information. Please enter the transfer code you have requested. A change of owner is considered to be a domain name transfer even if the registrar does not change.
  4. Then click on the"Validate" button to finalise your request.

[bcolor_orange]If you have requested a change of ownership for the domain name, you will be offered a quote of €29 excluding VAT. The procedure will only start once the quote has been paid[/bcolor].

Step 2.2: Moving a service (Mail Pro, VPS, Cloud Drive) or hosting without a domain name

On the service transfer page, select the product you want to transfer to another account.

Once you have made your choice, you need to finish filling in the form.

  1. Enter the customer ID of the new account that will receive the management transfer
  2. Indicate the e-mail address of the new account that will receive the management transmission. This step allows you to check that there is a match between the identifier and the e-mail address and that there have been no input errors on the identifier of the new LWS account.
  3. Then click on the"Validate" button to finalise your request.

Step 3: Confirm the move

Two emails containing a request to confirm the transfer will be sent, one to the account that made the request and the other to the new account that receives the property and/or technical management. Each e-mail contains a link to a form for confirming the move.

Click on the link to accept the transfer and you will be redirected to a new page where you must choose the option"I validate, I wish to transfer my domain/service", then click on"Confirm my request". If, however, you wish to cancel your request, you can select the other option"I cancel, I do not wish to transfer my domain/service".

[bcolor_blue] The transfer of the domain name or service will only be finalised if both parties confirm their agreement by e-mail.

The action of moving a domain name, service or hosting is definitive; it will no longer be possible to go back without the agreement of the domain name, service or hosting provider.
If the emails are not validated within 7 days of the request being made, the request will be cancelled[/bcolor].

Step 4: Check that the move has worked

Once the link in the two emails has been validated, check that the transmission has been carried out correctly.

In the destination account :

  1. Log in to the new account
  2. Check that the service appears in the list

In the sending account :

  1. Log in to the new account
  2. Check that the service no longer appears in the list

Deadlines

  • The move is usually immediate after validation of the two emails
  • If the service does not appear :
    • Log out
    • Reconnect after 5 to 10 minutes

Frequent problems

Why isn't my service listed in the travel form?

There are several possibilities:

  • The service you want to move is not eligible (mail Pro attached to an LWS domain name).
  • You are not the owner of the domain name and cannot transfer ownership.
  • The account is not the manager of the service you wish to transfer.

The destination account cannot be found

Possible causes :

  • Wrong customer ID
  • Wrong email address
  • No account

Solution:
Ask the owner of the destination account for their exact login and email address.

What should I do if the service has not been transmitted?

If one of the two accounts has not confirmed the transmission by e-mail within the 7-day time limit, the account that made the request will receive an e-mail informing it that the transmission could not be carried out and has been cancelled.

A link in the email will allow the account to restart the request. This will send two new emails, both of which will have to be validated, even if one of the two accounts had already confirmed the transmission previously.

Transferring my Pro mail service attached to a domain name managed by LWS

If the Pro mail service is linked to a domain name managed by LWS, you cannot transfer the Pro mail service alone without the domain.

You must transfer management of the domain to the LWS account that you want to also manage the Pro mail service. Transferring the domain name will also automatically transfer the Pro mail service.

You have not received the confirmation emails

Check your e-mail address and your spam or junk mail folder.
