A DNS server stores a database of different domain names, network names, Internet hosts, DNS records and other related data. The most basic function of a DNS server is to translate a domain name into its respective IP address. During a domain name resolution request, DNS records are looked up and, if found, the domain name record is returned.
If the domain name is not registered or added to this DNS server, the request is then forwarded to other DNS servers until a domain record is found.
1. Log in to your IONOS customer area.
2. Click on your domain name on your IONOS customer interface.
3. Click on the"name server" tab in the menu of your customer area.
4. Click on the"Use custom name servers" button to change the DNS servers for your IONOS domain to the name servers for your LWS web hosting.
5. Specify the LWS DNS servers and click the"Save" button. You can find out which LWS name servers are attached to your Web package by going to your LWS interface, click on"Domains and Hosting" and then on"Admin", which is located behind your domain name. Then click on"Domain Management". A box at the top of the page will tell you which name servers to configure.
Once the name servers for your domain have been changed and validated with IONOS, you will need to wait up to 24 hours for the changes to be propagated and for your domain to be linked to your Web package.
You are now able to change the nameservers of an IONOS domain. As indicated, once the change has been made, you'll need to wait up to 24 hours for the DNS servers to propagate and for your domain to be linked to your LWS hosting package. You can also retrieve the IONOS transfer code at any time to transfer your domain to LWS.
